Dr. Aqueel Akhtar is an academic and Assistant Professor of English at Motilal Nehru College (Evening), University of Delhi. He has over fifteen years of experience in higher education and is widely respected for his dedication to teaching, research, and literary studies. His academic career reflects a sustained engagement with literature and its social, cultural, and human dimensions.
Dr. Akhtar’s primary area of specialization is Afro-American literature. His research focuses on issues of race, gender, identity, marginalization, and resistance, and examines how literary texts respond to historical and social realities. He approaches literature not merely as an aesthetic form but as a powerful medium for understanding human experience and social change. His scholarly work is characterized by careful textual analysis, theoretical awareness, and intellectual clarity.
He has published a substantial number of research papers and articles in reputed journals, contributing meaningfully to contemporary critical debates in literary studies. Along with his academic responsibilities, Dr. Akhtar is actively involved in institutional administration. He has served as the Coordinator of IRIS, the Art and Literary Society of the college, and as a member of several committees, including the NAAC Report Committee, Student Union Advisory Committee, Cultural Committee, Photography Committee, Admission Committee, and Career Counselling Committee. He is also a life member of the Association for English Studies of India and is known as a dedicated teacher who promotes critical thinking and close reading among students.
